Purai Global Indigenous History Centre presents a special script reading of Something Much More

Dexter Daniels was one of the most important voices in Aboriginal and Trade Union activism in the 1960/70s. He is sadly forgotten and neglected by much of the histories of this time.

This play looks at his contributions to significant moments and movements in Aboriginal activism, including the Wave Hill Walk-Off and the initial Land Rights Legislation. As well it explores the relevance of his encompassing and expansive visions for social justice and change in the contemporary ‘post-Voice Referendum’ world.

This script is part of the ARC Research Project From Ngukurr to Newcastle: Indigenous advocacy, activism, networks and influence. It has been developed in conjunction with participants from Ngukurr and descendants of Dexter himself. The research project draws on an archive that spans oral histories, Trade Union records and files, extensive media from the time, ASIO files and personal correspondence. It represents an exciting imagining of unique research and materials in a way that brings the past and present together to a contemporary context of questions around Aboriginal activism and social justice.
