Poet as Historian: Alan Wearne in conversation with Catharine Coleborne

This event was held on Thursday 27 April 2023

Alan Wearne is a major Australian poet. His new book Near Believing is a retrospective collection of his work since 1967 published by Puncher & Wattman.

This event draws out Alan's love of 'the historical' as a landscape and character for his significant poetry which includes more than one 'epic' verse novel. Cathy's interest in this work is personal, because she studied poetry with Alan at RMIT in 1992/93. Together, they will converse about the book, Alan's poetic career, and about what makes poetry important in our present.

This event is for students in creative writing, editing and publishing, members of the public, academic and professional staff at the University of Newcastle and those with a passion for history and poetry. Join us on the ground floor of the University of Newcastle's Q Building at Honeysuckle.
