Orange to Blue Skies Film Screening
A monochrome landscape artwork depicts rolling hills, scattered trees, open fields, and a long train winding through the countryside beneath distant mountains.
What does the future hold for the Hunter Valley as coal mining comes to an end? And what do young people imagine for the place they call home?
Join us for a screening of Orange to Blue Skies, a 29-minute documentary following two young people from the Hunter Valley as they explore the region's mining past and future, and imagine what might fill the void ahead.
The screening will be followed by a youth panel discussion and Q&A, bringing together young people from across the Hunter Valley to share their perspectives, hopes and concerns about the region's future.
The film was created by the Valley Futures Film Crew as part of the Australian Research Council-funded project Mining Voids and Just Transition: Reimagining Post-Mining Landscapes, led by researchers at the University of Newcastle. The project explores how communities experience and imagine post-mining futures, with particular attention to the voices of those who will inherit the landscapes left behind.
Taking place on the eve of the Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue, the screening offers an opportunity to hear from the next generation and bring young people's voices into the broader conversation about the future of mining and post-mining landscapes in the Hunter Valley.
