Don't miss this event that explores the potential of sensor technology to improve care experiences and health outcomes for older people.

Who should attend

For clinicians, carers, technology companies and researchers, this Healthy at Home event will explore the potential of sensor technology to improve care experiences and health outcomes for older people, support ageing in place, enhance the sustainability of the care workforce, and reduce the costs of health and aged care. Using contemporary human centered design practices, together, we will look to a participatory future for home-based technologies designed by people for people, underpinned by the digital infrastructure provided by the NSW Government and the digital data management and capabilities of Service NSW.

The Central Coast communities are home to the largest proportion of older people’s population in the Six Cities region (27% aged 60 years or older, compared to 19% in Greater Sydney - ABS 2016 Census). This presents an exciting opportunity to take an ecosystem approach to developing the first suite of solutions to be fully integrated with the Local Health District (LHD).

Why this is important

As Australia’s population ages, there is an urgent need to deliver health and aged care that enables individuals to maintain satisfying lives, support choice and offer quality home-based care. Technology is rapidly transforming the way we track, monitor and manage our health. Advances in mobile phones, wearable sensors and digital health biomarkers provide real-time insights into people’s health and wellbeing, offering new ways to diagnose and support people as they age.

We have a unique collaboration opportunity to bring together Australia’s leading experts with key influencers and end user groups. Developed in partnership with the Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Hub for Connected Sensors for Health and the Central Coast Research Institute for Integrated Care (CCRI), this event is the sixth meeting of the New South Wales Sensing Network (NSSN) Ageing Taskforce and marks the first inaugural meeting and soft launch of the Healthy at Home program. The CCRI also hosts the Central Coast Health and Wellbeing Living Lab, a $1.5 million joint initiative of the Central Coast LHD and the University of Newcastle, funded by the Greater Cities Commission.

What you can expect

The Health and Wellbeing Living Lab is a proven ‘open innovation’ methodology that places community end-users at the centre of identifying needs, generating ideas and creating solutions for ageing in place. Key themes include: community connectivity to prevent social isolation and foster digital inclusion; the tech-enabled home, supporting older people to live independently and safely; and preventative tech that supports care in the home environment and reduces the need for hospitalisation or long-term residential care.

This event marks an exciting opportunity to learn about the latest research and innovation, including best practices in the field of ageing in place, with plenty of opportunities to network with peers, experts and innovators.

We invite you to join us to explore and experience the future of healthy ageing in NSW, either in person or online. Lunch will be supplied thanks to NSSN. Zoom details will be supplied on registration for those wishing to join remotely. We look forward to seeing you there!
