Join us in supporting World COPD Day and promoting the benefits of physical activity for people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This year, the University of Newcastle Exercise Physiology Clinic is proud to host a series of activities at the student-led clinic located at the Hunter Sports Centre, alongside a global livestream that brings together stories, research, and exercise demonstrations from around the world.

Starting 8am AEDT: Global Livestream: The Big Baton Pass

Be part of a global movement! The Big Baton Pass is a virtual relay that starts in New Zealand and travels across the globe, sharing inspiring stories, expert interviews, and practical tips to help people with COPD stay active.

11am - 12pm: Group Exercise Class (free registration essential via the 'Register Now' button below)

This free, supervised group exercise class is tailored for people with lung conditions and will be run by trained exercise physiology students under professional supervision. If you have COPD or know someone who does, we’d love to see you there!

12pm - 1pm: Networking Lunch (free registration essential via the 'Register Now' button below)

Join us for lunch to learn about what the clinic can offer and chat to our exercise physiologists.

1pm - 1:40pm: Talk and Q&A with Russel Winwood - "COPD Athlete"

Russell Winwood, known as The COPD Athlete, will share his powerful story of living with COPD and navigating the healthcare system to access exercise support services such as pulmonary rehabilitation. His journey has taken many turns—from diagnosis to running marathons with the aid of supplemental oxygen. Russell will offer practical tips and strategies for staying active and managing COPD, and there will be time for questions and discussion along the way.
