2024 Global Strategic Partnership Travel Grant for PhD Alumni - Terms and Conditions

Building on last year's success, we're expanding our program to include PhD Alumni from ASEAN and Pacific Region institutions, especially SPREP member countries. This growth aims to boost cross-border collaborations, knowledge exchange, and regional partnerships. Please share this opportunity and encourage eligible candidates to apply.

Terms and Conditions

Amount: 12 x AUD $5,000 Travel Grant

Eligibility and Responsibilities:

  • Applicants from Newcastle must have an ongoing role at the University of Newcastle.
  • The Newcastle applicant is responsible for nominating the PhD Alumni applicant.
  • The Newcastle applicant is in charge of submitting the application.
  • Successful applicants must use the awarded grant in 2024

Location Requirement:

  • PhD Alumni applicants should be based in an institution in the ASEAN or Pacific Region.
  • Countries in the Pacific region must be members of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
  • Exclusions: Australian offshore campuses, such as Monash Malaysia.

Grant Coverage:
The travel grant covers cost of travel and living expenses.

Exclusions include:

  • Private activities undertaken by participants during the exchange.
  • Basic research costs
  • Activities that solely provide study or training opportunities.
  • Attendance at seminar/conference events.

Expected Output:

Within 18 months of receiving the grant, participants are expected to produce either:

  • Joint journal article submissions, or
  • Joint external competitive grant submissions.

Grant Management

Funding Management:

  • A specific cost collector will be provided for expenditure.
  • Reimbursement up to the maximum grant amount specified.

Visiting Visa Requirement:

  • Visitors of the University are required to hold an appropriate visa for their stay.
