Neurodivergent Peer2Peer Program

Our Neurodivergent Peer-to-Peer Program offers a supportive community where you can connect with fellow students who share similar experiences. Together, we'll work on staying on track with our academic goals while learning valuable strategies to manage procrastination, perfectionism, and stress.
Sessions include:
- Time Management and Organisation
- Understanding emotion
- Work/life balance and self-care
Specialist Peer Mentor Program (SPMP)
Registration essential
The Specialist Peer Mentor Program (SPMP) is for any student on the Autism Spectrum who would like to participate. The SPMP is available for both new and ongoing students throughout their studies at UON. The program can assist in navigating the challenges that University can entail to ensure the best possible University experience.
Neurodivergent Study Club
Weekly drop-in sessions
Weekly drop-in study sessions (3 hours) offering structured study time and peer connection. No diagnosis is required, and sessions are run in a distraction-free environment using strategies like body doubling and the Pomodoro technique to support focus.

A student-led, inclusive space for anyone with lived experience of disability, neurodivergence, mental health conditions, chronic illness, or caring responsibilities.

Neurodivergent Student Orientation Program
Preparing for University Success
A 2-day event to support your transition to the University of Newcastle.
Date: Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 January 2026
Time: 10.00 am - 2.30 pm
Location: The Brennan Room, Shortland Union Building, Callaghan Campus
What will be provided: Morning tea and lunch on both days and a Welcome Student Starter Pack
Who should attend? This event is open to students who identify as Neurodivergent and who want to get off to a great start in Semester 1 2026. A family member or support person is welcome to attend.
Virtual Reality Stress Management Training Program
Newcastle City Campus
Boost your focus, calm, and confidence with Performance Edge — a powerful four-session VR program designed to help you manage stress and challenging emotions. Each session teaches practical, evidence-based skills you can use in study, life, and placements.
Run by the Counselling Service, this immersive experience is free for all students.
Choirs
The Conservatorium BrainWaves Stroke Survivors Choir is a supportive, no-fee choir for stroke survivors and their partners or carers. BrainWaves offers the joy of group singing, social connection, and communication support — no auditions required.
The Unforgettables is a welcoming, non-auditioned choir for people with dementia and their care partners. Enjoy the joy of group singing, connection, and expert support in an accessible and inclusive environment.
