Class allocation frequently asked questions
When are class allocations released?
See the "Class Allocation released in myTimetable" date listed for each Semester on the Enrolment dates page. After that time, you can choose from any available class time, or join waitlists for full classes.
How do I view my timetable?
Log into myTimetable: https://mytimetable.newcastle.edu.au/odd/student
Use the ‘Timetable’ tab in the top ribbon to view your timetable in weekly schedule mode.
You can show your full timetable for the term by clicking "All Weeks" or show a week-by-week schedule by clicking "Current Week" and using the arrow buttons to scroll week to week.
Classes may run at different times some weeks, so review your weekly schedule to see any changes.
How do I use the planner in myTimetable?
See the video “Part 4: Planner Tool” at https://www.newcastle.edu.au/current-students/study-essentials/enrolment/how-to-enrol
How do I view the classes I’ve been allocated to?
Log into myTimetable to view your allocated class times.
A class time with a green circle has been allocated.
A class with a red circle will need to be allocated. Click on the individual class to show the options available and select an available class time. You will be allocated to that class time and it will change to green.
Can I change my allocated class times?
Once class times are released, myTimetable moves into allocation adjustment mode.
You can view your allocated class and change to another available time. If there is space available, you will be swapped to that time immediately.
If the class is full, you can join the waitlist by clicking on the heart icon next to the class. You will be allocated if a space becomes available and notified via email.
You can make changes to your class times up until the Friday of week 2 of term.
I cannot get into the class time I want. What can I do?
If your desired class time is showing as FULL, join the waitlist by clicking on the heart icon next to the class.
You will be allocated if a place becomes available and notified via email.
What if there are no places in any class?
Join a waitlist by clicking on the heart icon next to the class.
You can join as many waitlists as you want. You will be allocated automatically if a place becomes available.
Monitor the system into week 2 of term as spots may become available or new times can be added. The last day you can change class times is Friday of week 2 of term.
The University will also be monitoring this to ensure there are sufficient spaces available for all enrolled students.
I didn't enter any preferences, can I still be allocated to classes?
After class allocations are released on Friday 3 June you can choose from the available class times or join the waitlist for a class by clicking the heart icon.
I entered preferences, why wasn't I allocated?
There could be numerous factors including clashes, capacity issues or travel time restrictions between campuses. Students can select any available class time or waitlist for a full class.
What if I have a clash?
Students should attend lectures in person where possible. Students can deallocate from a Lecture to be allocated to other class times that clash. This can be done by clicking on the bin icon next to an activity.
If you have a clash in classes that are not lectures, you will need to see if there are other class activities you can select that don't clash.
If the course is an elective and all options clash with activities in another course, you may need to select another elective course.
I was only allocated to some of my classes and not all. What do I do?
Popular class times fill up quickly and it is not possible to allocate all students to those times. After class allocations are released, if you are unallocated in any of your classes choose from the available class times or join the waitlist for a class by clicking the heart icon.
What if I have a clash between a lecture and another class such as a tutorial or workshop?
After class allocations are released, you can choose from the available class times or join the waitlist for a class by clicking the heart icon. If no other options are available, you will be able to access a recording of the lecture.
Are there online versions for all classes?
Some classes have an online offering. Classes offered online are clearly indicated in the course handbook. If the class you are selecting is not listed as being online then you must attend face to face.  However, some courses may have a mix of delivery modes, ie. the lecture may be delivered via zoom, with face to face attendance for the remaining classes.
