Description
Introduction to Equity and Cultural Capability has been designed to prepare students for a wide range of contexts including the workplace, further and higher education settings. Students will develop the cultural awareness, cultural capability skills, and culturally appropriate language and literacy skills necessary for any of these settings.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of culture, identity and socialisation.
2. Describe and differentiate between different cultural based approaches at an introductory level.
3. Engage in written and verbal critical self-reflection tasks, using culturally appropriate language and literacy, at an introductory level.
4. Demonstrate the basic application of different culture based approaches including: cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, cultural competence and cultural safety.
5. Demonstrate basic cultural capability skills and apply, interpret and reflect on different introductory case studies
Content
The course covers basic concepts and examples to develop introductory concepts for developing understandings of:
- Culture and identity
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Culturally appropriate language and literacy
- Culture based approaches (cultural competence cultural capability and cultural safety)
- Culture, power and discrimination
