Meet the I2N Accelerator changemakers for 2024

Students are making their voices heard through the radio waves, with the audio documentaries of journalism students being broadcast on ABC Radio Newcastle.

The University of Newcastle celebrated outstanding innovation in climate action at the Net Zero Grand Challenge Awards Night, held at the University Gallery on October 17th, 2024.

The University of Newcastle is leading transformative change in rural and regional education, which is one thing that attracted proud Wiradjuri woman, Millie Mills, to the University. Millie relocated from Wellington and is currently in her second year of studying Education, something that she said is thanks to the Wollotuka Institute’s Yapug program.

In February 2024, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) published, for the first time, the gender pay gaps of almost 5,000 employers. At a recent event, members of the HunterWiSE Network explored the factors that contribute to the gender pay gap, and actions that are being taken to close the divide.

The University of Newcastle has teamed up with the NSW Department of Education, Enrichd Group and the Central Coast Mariners football club to deliver an innovative community program that aims to address gendered violence and promote respectful relationships among secondary school students in the Central Coast region.
