Career-ready placements allow students to integrate real world skills and experience with theoretical concepts and knowledge obtained during their studies.

The following undergraduate placement course is offered by the School of Psychological Sciences:

  • PYSC3002 Work Integrated Learning in Psychology

PYSC3002 is a compulsory Core Course or Placement Directed Course in all Psychological Science programs for students commencing in 2023 onwards.  Students enrolled in combined degree programs from 2023 onwards will have a choice to complete PSYC3002 or the Placement course offered by their other degree.

Students who commenced their Psychological Science program prior to 2023 can choose to complete PYSC3002 as an elective if they have elective space in their program.

Supervised placements are an integral component of your psychology postgraduate program and offer you opportunities to gain practical knowledge and develop skills relevant to the role of a registered or clinical psychologist. The University works collaboratively with various government services, non-government and private organisations to help support and facilitate optimum training opportunities. The University supports students to access suitable practical experiences and, where available, matches students to internal and external placements in accordance with their stage of development.

All placements are recorded and managed within the online program SONIA. Everything you need to know regarding SONIA, including log in information can be found in the SONIA Student Manuals.

The NSW Health standards are the minimum mandatory verification requirement for all Master of Clinical Psychology students and any Master of Professional Psychology students undertaking NSW Health placements. Please see the NSW Health Verification information and follow the process outlined. The process can take 8 weeks or more, please submit your documents well in advance of your proposed placement dates to avoid delays.

Additional requirements may be needed specific to placement sites, these requirements will show in your 'Checks' tab in SONIA.

Requirements for qualification of award include completion of Placement.  Please refer to your program handbook for further requirements of your degree.
