Placements and Practicums
The goal of a practicum or placement is to provide an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt and gained from their degree within a range of work environments. This gives students an opportunity to practice their skills in relevant situations and to appreciate the variety of professional roles in the field. Furthermore, it enables students to observe and experience how their theoretical knowledge and skills can be applied in a vocational setting
Industrial experience
As a compulsory requirement all engineering and construction management students are required to complete 12-16 weeks of practical work experience before graduation. Hosting students for industrial experience can be an excellent way to hand pick future employees and familiarise them with your business. With students in a wide range of engineering, computing and built environment disciplines, there’s bound to be someone with the interest and knowledge to match your business needs. Work experience can be either paid or unpaid. All students on unpaid work experience are fully covered by University insurance.
Final year project
Final year projects are an integral part of all of our programs. Industry-based final year projects provide an excellent vehicle for developing links with the College and gaining access to talented students to work on real problems within your business. Timelines range, and students can work individually or in teams. Each project also benefits from direct supervision by expert academic staff from the relevant area. Students can volunteer or be employed directly by the industry partner.
Research scholarships
Industry-funded research scholarships can be created for undergraduate and postgraduate students to either help them complete their studies, or facilitate a specific placement. These scholarships and placements can range from 1-5 years, with funding from an individual industry partner.
