We have a wide range of cafes, restaurants and bars across our Callaghan campus. So whether you're looking for a quiet spot for a coffee or drink, or a place to catch up with friends for a bite to eat, we've got plenty of options for you. We also have a café on hand in each of our libraries providing coffee, snacks and lunches.

Located on the Hunter side of our Callaghan campus, the Bar on the Hill is the centre of entertainment at the University of Newcastle. With nightly events, including bingo, trivia and student parties, BOTH is the go-to place for students. Bar on the Hill is also one of Newcastle’s best live music venues, hosting some of Australia’s best artists, bands and international guests.

Heart Art Café provides all things fresh with an extensive range of vegan and gluten-free options. Fresh fruit salads, smoothies, healthy wraps, juices and coffee to get you through your day. Stop by and fuel up in the morning with a delicious selection on the breakfast menu. You can also stock up on your bulk bag of coffee beans as well!

A family-run business selling a range of delicious kebabs and snack packs, with meat fresh off the rack and falafel for vegetarians. There are also cool drinks and hot chips, something for everyone in the lunchtime rush!

Kumache is a Venezualan/South American blend of street food by a couple who migrated to Australia in 2015; Paola and Jose produce minimalistic and sustainable vegan food for everyone!

Subway is a fast-food franchise that primarily offers healthy submarine sandwiches and salads. Subway is a popular choice for lunch on campus with both students and staff. They offer a huge range of fresh subs (including yummy breakfast subs!), wraps, salads, cold drinks and the famous Subway cookie!

The School Locker offers a range of products and services, including notebooks, stethoscopes, lab coats, keyboards, headphones and heaps more!
The Shop and Post Office

The Shop, stocking official University of Newcastle merchandise, is co-located with Australia Post in the Shortland Building.
The post office caters for all your postal and passport needs.
