Wetlands Pavilion
The University of Newcastle has designated the Wetlands Pavilion on Callaghan campus as a new reflection space for university students.
Refurbished in 2023, this space is available for reflection from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm every Monday to Friday. It provides a serene environment for quiet contemplation or prayer.
Please be considerate of others while using this space. Feel free to take advantage of this peaceful setting for personal reflection and spiritual practice. We recommend bringing mosquito repellent for a more enjoyable experience.
Campus Security will ensure that the space is opened and locked each day.
History of Wetlands Pavilion
Initially sponsored by Friends of the University, the Wetlands Pavilion was
designed for student field studies and observation deck to the Wetlands. It
was constructed mostly from recycled materials, particularly Western Red
Cedar. In May 2023, a refurbishment initiative began, including:
* Demolition and replacement of front and rear timber decking
* Installing powder-coated balustrading, CrimSafe screens, and door cylinders
* Subfloor and pier replacements
* Adding new front and rear guttering
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
