Nursing Experience in Vietnam
Nursing students volunteer for a life-changing experience in Vietnam
Newcastle Bachelor of Nursing students Samantha Scheffer and Nicole Powers (pictured) recently embarked on an adventure to Hanoi to experience clinical care from a different perspective.
The students spent a month working at Thanh Nhan Hospital alongside local health professionals, gaining valuable practice in clinical skills such as patient assessments, medication administration, wound care, attending surgeries, witnessing natural births and participating in airway management during CPR.
During their final week in Vietnam the students also made a special visit to the paediatric ward where they handed out gifts and played with the children.
Reflecting on the trip, Nicole said it was an inspirational experience that will stay with them for life.
"Not only has this once in a lifetime opportunity enabled us to travel to some beautiful places in Vietnam and learn a different way of life, but it has also prepared us for our future in nursing and we feel ready for the coming year," she said.
