On Thursday April 4th 2013, Nobel Laureate Professor Barry J. Marshall AC presented the 2013 David Maddison Lecture to over 400 community members, University staff and students at the University's Callaghan Campus.

Professor Marshall famously swallowed the  bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, to prove that it caused peptic ulcers. In recognition of this ground breaking discovery and his innovative approach to medical research he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2005 with Nobel Laureate J. Robin Warren.

The David Maddison Lecture is a free public lecture held every two years and commemorates the contributions of Professor David Maddison, the Foundation Dean of Medicine at the Newcastle Medical School.

This event was proudly supported by the Faculty of Health and Medicine.
