Research Information Management System (RIMS)

The Research Information Management System (RIMS) is an integrated online system to manage grants and ethics administration relating to research projects. RIMS offers researchers, administrative and executive staff a single point of reference for these aspects of research projects.

RIMS is powered by InfoEd, a provider of software for research administration management.  The software is used by more than 600 academic, medical and scientific institutions worldwide.

RIMS has been used by Research Services as a data management tool for human and animal ethics administration since January 2008 and grants administration since September 2009.  Since December 2011 it has been available to University researchers, both staff and students, to view ethics and grant records on which they are named as an investigator.  RIMS is an historical record as well as providing researchers with the opportunity to track the status and progress of current ethics and grant submissions.

On 24 September 2012, the electronic submission features within RIMS were activated for all ethics application processes.  All submissions to the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and the Animal Care and Ethics Committee (ACEC) are now made via eForms in RIMS.  This will enable improved management and review processes, as well as providing researchers with the full history of their ethics submissions.
