Industrial Transformation Research Hubs

The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme will provide funding to Eligible Organisations to engage in cutting edge research on new technologies and economic and social transformation and support the development of research in the Industrial Transformation Priorities.

The Industrial Transformation Priorities are priority research areas identified by the ARC which will be updated from round to round.

The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs for funding commencing in 2013 will have a dual focus: food and manufacturing.

The Program will continue to address research areas that are vital for, and assist with:

  • Australia's future food storage,
  • food processing,
  • food manufacturing capabilities and
  • product opportunities.

In addition, the Program will target:

  • product design and development,
  • manufacturing techniques,
  • defence manufacturing and
  • firm organisation and management.

A strong collaboration and commitment of resources from innovative national and international industries is required; in turn the ARC will provide up to $1 million per annum funding for each Research Hub for a maximum of five (5) consecutive years.

The objectives of the Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme are to:

  1. encourage collaborative Research and Development projects to address challenging industry issues solved through innovative research relevant to the Industrial Transformation Priorities;
  2. attract investment from the global and international business community by underpinning internationally-recognised excellence of Australian universities and their industry partners; and
  3. leverage private and international investment in targeted industry sectors.

Similar to the Linkage Project scheme the combined partner cash and in-kind must at least equal the requested ARC funds. The combined Partner Organisation(s) Cash Contribution where any Partner Organisation has more than 100 employees must be at least 75% of the total funding requested from the ARC. Where the Partner Organisation or the largest Partner Organisation in a consortium in the proposal has 100 employees or less, there is no minimum combined Partner Organisation(s) Cash Contribution.
