Analytical and Biomolecular Research Facility (ABRF)

Who are we?

The ABRF forms one-half of the University's Central Scientific Services (CSS), a support unit centrally funded by Research Services.

Functions of the ABRF

The ABRF provides instrument and associated technical support services to the University's research community in the areas of analytical and biological mass spectrometry as well as flow cytometry.

History of the ABRF

The ABRF was borne out of the amalgamation of the former AMSU (Advanced Mass Spectrometry Unit) and BRF (Biomolecular Research Facility), the latter comprising Newcastle DNA & Newcastle Protein Sequencing.  DNA and protein sequencing services are no longer provided by the ABRF.

 

Facility Locations

 

The main facility is located on Level 4 of the Life Science Building (LSB).  An additional facility of flow cytometry instruments is located within the David Maddison Building (DMB).
