The animal Welfare and Training Unit can assist if you have any concerns about the health or welfare of research animals or any complaint about the use of animals in research.

Concerns about the health and/or welfare of research animals

If you're concerned about the health and welfare of any research animal, veterinary assistance can be obtained by contacting the Animal Welfare and Training Unit or the Animal Services Unit who can contact a veterinarian on your behalf.

Veterinary Services

The Animal Welfare and Training Unit can provide veterinary clinical services for sick or injured research animals, investigation of animal health problems and advice on monitoring the health of animals in research facilities.


Routine Monitoring of Animal Health

The Animal Services Unit routinely monitors the health of the animals held in its facilities.  The Animal Welfare and Training Unit can provide advice on monitoring protocols, interpretation of results and advice on the health of imported animals.


Complaints about the use of animals in research

The Animal Care and Ethics Committee has formal grievance procedures for the investigation of complaints about the use of animals in research.
