Animal Care and Ethics Committee
Monitoring Checklist Templates
A monitoring checklist is the documentation of an overall animal well-being monitoring strategy developed by the research team and used to record the health and welfare of animals allocated to research projects. It must be approved by the Animal Care and Ethics Committee and used as approved.
The checklist must be designed so that it is:
- Effective without being onerous
- Relevant to the research protocol and the species being used
- Able to detect adverse animal welfare impacts as early as possible so that appropriate action can be taken to minimise animal suffering
- Clear and unambiguous so all persons involved in the care of the research animals understand it and can apply it appropriately
Links to examples of monitoring checklists are provided below. These should be modified to suit your research project.
