University of Newcastle Orchestra ‘'Symphony & Songs My Mother Taught Me'
The University of Newcastle Orchestra will perform Anton Dvoraks famous Gypsy Song “Songs my Mother Taught Me” as a centre piece of their special Mother’s Day Concert. The concert will also feature two emerging Newcastle artists Ashlee Woodgate (soprano) and songwriter Teagan McCaig, both are past and current students of The Conservatorium. Songs by the icon songwriter Franz Schubert will be sung and immediately followed by an original composition in present day songwriting giving the audience a chance to travel over two centuries and compare the creative essence of the song writing genre.
The program will begin and end with two short Symphonies; Schubert Symphony No 5 and Beethoven Symphony No. 8 . Both reflect the life and times of Vienna in the early 1800’s where Beethoven and Schubert were contemporaries.
The symphonies contrasting in style show Schubert and Beethoven as two of the most influential composers of the 19th century. Following the concert a Devonshire Tea will be served in the foyer.
