Description
The construction industry is growing rapidly, and there is a high demand for skilled professionals who can manage complex projects effectively. The Master of Construction Management (Professional) degree is a two-year (or part time equivalent) graduate-level program that focuses on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to oversee the life cycle of construction projects. The program covers topics such as project management, cost estimation, scheduling, and construction. Additionally, you'll learn about the legal and regulatory issues that are specific to the construction industry, which will help you to navigate these complexities and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Graduates can pursue careers as construction managers, project managers, or estimators in the construction industry.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Integrate and evaluate the fundamental principles and technical knowledge of building and construction technology, management, economics and law.
- Identify and resolve typical building challenges with limited guidance, employing appropriate evidence-based problem-solving and decision-making methodologies.
- Critically and creatively reflect on personal behaviours and capabilities in the context of entry to professional practice.
- Interpret and negotiate building and construction information, instructions and ideas with various project stakeholders.
- Research and develop methods and strategies for the procurement and delivery of contemporary construction work.
- Demonstrate an integrated understanding of both the theory and practice of building and construction based on experience.

Admission requirements
Admissions to the M Construction Management program is offered to:
- Applicants with a cognate* Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) but with no full time relevant professional work experience are eligible for admission to the 160-unit program.
- Applicants with a cognate* Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) plus 2 years of full time relevant professional work experience may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and admission to 120-unit program.
- Applicants with a cognate* Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) with more than 4 years of full time relevant professional work experience may be eligible for admission to the 80-unit program.
- Applicants with a non-cognate Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) in any field with up to 2 years of full time relevant professional work experience may be eligible for admission to the 160-unit program.
- Applicants with a non-cognate Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) in any field with more than 4 years of full time relevant professional work experience may be eligible for admission to the 120-unit program.
- Applicants with a cognate Bachelor Honours degree (AQF Level 8) or Graduate Certificate qualifications (AQF Level 8) with no full time relevant professional work experience may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and admission to 120-unit program.

- Applicants with a Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) (Honours) from the University of Newcastle are eligible for admission to the 80-unit program. The RPL courses that would be applied for these students are: ARBE3301, ARBE4308, ARBE4310, ARBE6302, ARBE6301, ARBE6309, ARBE6313, ARBE6307.
