The University of Newcastle values the formal recognition of prior learning and study by its students. It endorses the Universities Australia Policy Guidelines on Cross Sector Linkages as a minimum standard in the development of articulation arrangements. Qualification linkages enable individual learners to move from one qualification to another in more efficient and effective learning pathways. Qualification linkages also provide a mechanism for creating a more open, accessible and relevant tertiary education system and a vehicle for implementing lifelong learning.
Being acknowledged for your prior study may reduce the duration of a program and may even save you money. Credit which is also known as pathways, articulation, credit transfer, recognition of current competencies or admission with advanced standing are terms with similar meaning - recognition of previous relevant study.
At the University of Newcastle credit may be granted on the basis of the University's assessment of an individual's prior learning, or on the basis of a University approved articulation arrangement for specific courses of study completed at other institutions.
Credit may also be granted for units of study and awards that have been successfully completed through recognised Tertiary Institutions, Registered Private Providers of Accredited Tertiary Education courses and the Vocational Education and Training sector.
The University of Newcastle's Credit and Articulation Policy is intended to:
• Provide a consistent approach to the assessment and granting of credit
• Guide the development of articulation arrangements with other tertiary providers
• Support the use of the University's Credit Application Tracking System (CATS)
