Description
This course prepares students as the future generation of professionals within the built environment sector to work respectfully and ethically on and with Country. Adopting a combination of Problem-Based, Experiential, Cooperative and Active learning, students will have an opportunity to consider, reflect and form their own approach to culturally competent professional practice. At the conclusion of this course, students will have developed capacity for culturally competent problem-solving, intercultural awareness, and ethical engagement with Indigenous people within the Built Environment sector.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Identify and explain key concepts, ideas, and cultural practices to demonstrate introductory knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture
2. Discuss, in a culturally sensitive manner, the historical and contemporary issues faced by Indigenous peoples in relation to the built environment, including the systemic challenges and consequences of colonisation.
3. Review various local and global approaches to working with Indigenous peoples within the built environment sector, through the lens of cultural competency.
4. Develop culturally sensitive problem-solving strategies to address key challenges encountered when working on and with Country within the built environment sector.
5. Engage in reflective and self-directed learning to continually enhance personal cultural capability and professional growth, demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and ethical engagement with Indigenous peoples.
