REfocus@UoN

Developing the Strategic Researcher

Welcome to REfocus@UoN – the program dedicated to the development and support of researchers at the University of Newcastle. The information, events and links on the pages in this site are designed to provide a support portal for UoN's diverse, talented and widely dispersed research community.

Use the links on this page to navigate to REfocus@UoN seminars and events, as well as to other useful opportunities across the university and beyond. They are your door to ongoing success.

REfocus@UoN aims to develop the strategic researcher by supporting excellence, innovation and cooperation in the researcher career lifecycle - from Early Career Researcher to internationally respected expert. Among many working titles you may be, for example, an early or mid career researcher, a research assistant, a Chief Investigator, a Research Fellow, an RHD supervisor, a postdoc or a research higher degree student. Your role may be purely research or a combination of teaching and research.

This initiative is a collaborative venture between Organisational Development and Research Division at the University of Newcastle.

REfocus@UoN continues to address researcher wellbeing while remaining focused on research leadership and key research skills, mentoring, career development and succession planning.

In 2011, REfocus@UoN has six key components. Click on the title of a component to find out more about the events and opportunities in that part of the program..

  1. REview - communicating with stakeholders, supporting coordinated development.
  2. REnew  - introducing new researchers to the university
  3. REdevelop - developing researcher-specific and transferable skills
  4. REconnect - delivering networking and mentoring for and by researchers
  5. futuRE - providing career path skills and events for researchers
  6. REbalance - focusing on researcher wellbeing.

The program is guided by the input of researchers, including the members of the Researcher Development Advisory Group (RDAG).
