Graduates of the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts degree, or equivalent program, may undertake a further year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) study. The program is designed to allow students to specialise to an advanced level of professionalism and academic achievement. This degree further prepares students for careers in music and performing arts, as well as providing a pathway into Research Higher Degree study.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
Mastery of research methodology in music and the performing arts.
Mastery of advanced project planning skills.
Mastery of advanced written, oral and/or performance communication skills.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of music and the performing arts as a specialist area.

Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area with a minimum GPA of 5.0:
across all studies undertaken within the program; or
across a major in the proposed area of study; or
across 80 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists); or
where the applicant has completed less than 80 units at 3000 level, a GPA of 5.5 calculated from at least 60 units of 3000 level courses (which includes at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists).
In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.

Additional selection criteria
Auditions - Students who have a performance component in their research and have completed their undergraduate studies at another institution may be required to pass an audition.
Portfolio - Students who have a composition or technical production component will be required to submit a portfolio. Please contact the Program Convenor for more information.
