Top-up Scholarship
The NSW Department of Education would like to support current and future RTP candidates with an additional $10,000 in areas that address state research priorities.
The NSW Department of Education has committed funding to support local researchers. The funding aims to address targeted areas of significance and research priorities for the state including:
- Transition
- Wellbeing
- Pedagogical Innovation
- Inclusiveness
- Learning Environments
- Quality Teaching
- Workforce Development
Research will help inform and impact education policy and practices within the state. Recipients of this prestigious scholarship will be collectively acknowledged as Waratah Scholars.
Top-up Scholarship details
Funding: $10,000 top-up for one year
Supervisor: Existing Supervisor
Available to: Domestic students

Eligibility Criteria
- Be a recipient of the University of Newcastle Research Training Program (RTP) stipend scholarship
- Research aligned with priority areas
- The applicant will need to meet the minimum eligibility criteria for admission.
Application Procedure
Candidates should apply with a 2 page summary of how their research helps to address the stated research priorities for Education.
They should demonstrate some level of familiarity with the research, evidence base, and data in use by the Department of Education, and show how their research will help the Department achieve its strategic goals.

Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Waratah Scholar Team.
Current RTP candidates must apply no later than 31 May 2024. Interviews will be held in June and successful applicants will be notified in late June.
