Top-up Scholarship
The intention of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to encourage today’s young researchers working in the field of renewable energy, including those in search for alternative energy resources.
After relocating from Korea to Australia in the late 1970s, Dr Paul Chong never forgot the vital support he received from the University of Newcastle and the scholarships that enabled him to complete both his Master of Science and PhD in Chemistry.
In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, alumnus Dr Chong generously donated to establish this scholarship, aimed at supporting the College of Engineering, Science and Environment.
His gift is intended to inspire and empower the next generation of researchers - particularly those exploring innovative solutions in alternative energy.
Top-up Scholarship details
Funding: This scholarship is ongoing up to a maximum term of 3 years provided ongoing eligibility. The scholarship provides a total benefit of $30,000, $10,000 per annum up to a maximum 3-year tenure provided ongoing eligibility for the term of the scholarship. The scholarship benefit and number of scholarships awarded may vary and will be determined by the funding available each year. This is a donor-funded scholarship from Dr Paul Chong.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
Be enrolled in your first year of a PhD program at the University of Newcastle, conducting research related to alternative energy resources.
Application Procedure
As part of the application process, applicants must submit:
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing academic and research achievements.
- A written statement (maximum one A4 page, excluding documentary evidence) outlining:
-Research progress, plans, and aspirations. - A supporting letter from the applicant’s supervisor.
Applications that do not include all required documentation will not be considered.
As part of your application, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions regarding privacy and collection of personal information set out in the Declaration and Authority at the start of your application.
