Our vision
To provide national leadership in the provision of community responsive Indigenous health education that challenges health inequities through an empowered and capable Indigenous health workforce.
We are a team who provide academic and all-inclusive support to all Indigenous students in the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing programs at the University of Newcastle and Joint Medical Program (JMP) students at the University of New England.
Providing leadership and expertise
The Thurru Indigenous Health Unit provides leadership and expertise in the area of Indigenous Health education for the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing.
Some of our key statistics include:
- The University of Newcastle has graduated 145 Indigenous medical doctors
- Each year places are set aside for admission into the Joint Medical Program. These places are for applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
