Establishment

These scholarships are offered to encourage and support students with demonstrated sporting ability, and to contribute to the sporting achievements of the University of Newcastle. The purpose of these scholarships is to improve the quality of our sporting teams, raise the university’s profile through sport, and establish a standard of excellence to complement the university's academic achievements.

Students can represent the University of Newcastle in a wide range of sports as members of university sporting clubs or at inter-university competitions. Student participation in sport is facilitated by the broad range of sporting facilities at the university which are among the best in the region.


Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Receive an offer of admission to a University of Newcastle undergraduate program before or in the Main Round UAC offers.
  • Be commencing fulltime study with University of Newcastle.
  • Have attained an equivalent sporting standard in the previous 2 years of selection at district representative level in the sport for an Under 17 or older age district team as a minimum.
  • Be interested in representing University of Newcastle in sporting clubs, inter-university competitions and similar opportunities.
  • Not have previously received this scholarship.

Required Documentation

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

  • A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
  • A written reference which can confirm your sporting achievements, including selection for and participation in highlight events if applicable.
  • Evidence of selection in a representative team or participation in a highlight event, including web links to details of selection and participation, published articles and results. You can also include your cv, club memberships etc.

Benefit

These scholarships are for a benefit of $2000, paid after the census date in the semester in which the scholarship is offered.


Selection

Applications will be ranked and the scholarships will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated sporting ability, academic merit and commitment to the sporting achievements of the University. Interviews may be held.
