The NAB Foundation First Nations Futures Scholarship backs ambition, leadership and excellence in business and finance as a pathway to self-determination and community prosperity.
NAB Foundation is funding a scholarship for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student studying for a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business, who is ready to shape a stronger future for communities, industries, and country.
The scholar will have access to a program offered by NAB including mentoring, internships/work placements and career workshops and networking events.
Applicable to Indigenous, Business, Commerce, supports full-time and part-time study.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Be enrolled in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business degree (including Combined) at the University of Newcastle.
- Establish your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status per the process outlined on the Wollotuka Institute's study with us page.
- Demonstrate academic progress by the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent required for entry for commencing students, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 for continuing students (evidence not required for current UON students).
- Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.
Required Documentation
Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.
- A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
Benefit
The scholarship provides a maximum benefit of $90,000 over the duration of a 4-year (320 unit) program, provided ongoing eligibility is maintained. Payment will be made as follows:
- $11,250 each in Semester 1 and Semester 2 after the relevant census dates for recipients enrolled in 30 units or more (full-time) each semester.
- $5,625 each semester for recipients enrolled in 10–20 units (part-time).
- The scholarship must be taken up in the year for which it is awarded. Payments will continue for the standard duration of the recipient’s original program from the time of award, up to a maximum of 4 years full-time equivalent (320 units), including Honours where applicable.
Payments are typically received 2–3 weeks after the semester census date, or 2–3 weeks after you accept your offer if the census date has already passed.
The scholarship benefit and number of scholarships awarded may vary and will be determined by the funding available each year.
Selection
Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria.
