Establishment

We Care NSW and TRH Psychology and Cultural Consultancy Service are Aboriginal-owned and operated businesses that work in partnership to deliver NDIS and other allied health, community, and accommodation services. We Care NSW has established this scholarship to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to enter a career in Psychology. It is the intention of We Care NSW to build ongoing relationships with scholars which may include opportunities for placements, offers of ongoing employment, and support to complete the clinical registrar program for clinical psychologists in training.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in any year of a Master of Clinical Psychology degree or a Master of Professional Psychology program with the University of Newcastle.
  • Be willing to complete one of your curriculum required placements with We Care NSW.
  • Establish your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage with the university as outlined here.
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

Benefit

The scholarship provides a total benefit of $10,000 over 2 years providing ongoing eligibility is met for the term of the scholarship.

This will be paid as $5000 each year after the relevant census dates.


Selection

No application is required for this scholarship. The scholarship will be automatically awarded at the start of Semester based on admissions and student progress reporting within Admissions and Scholarships.

Selection of the scholarship will consider all eligible students who have established their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage with the University of Newcastle in accordance with the current University Policy and Procedure.

Selection will also consider, in order:

  • Academic study year with preference to students commencing their degree who may benefit from the full duration of the scholarship, and
  • Spread of available awards across different academic study years.
