Establishment

We Care NSW and TRH Psychology and Cultural Consultancy Service are Aboriginal-owned and operated businesses that work in partnership to deliver NDIS and other allied health, community, and accommodation services. We Care NSW has established this scholarship to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to enter a career in Psychology. It is the intention of We Care NSW to build ongoing relationships with scholars which may include opportunities for employment as an allied health assistant or behavior support practitioner during or after the successful completion of their studies. Applicants should be interested in being considered for a career with We Care NSW upon graduation.

Applicable to Indigenous, psychology, psychological science, industry, part-time study permitted.


Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor of Psychological Science degree program with the University of Newcastle.
  • Establish your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status per the process outlined on the Wollotuka Institute's study with us page.
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

Benefit

The scholarship provides a total benefit of $10,000 over 2 years providing ongoing eligibility is met for the term of the scholarship.

This will be paid as $5000 in Semester 1 each year. Payments are typically received 2–3 weeks after the semester census date, or 2–3 weeks after you accept your offer if the census date has already passed.


Selection

No application is required for this scholarship,

Selection of the scholarship will consider all eligible students who have established their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage with the University of Newcastle in accordance with the current University Policy and Procedure.

Where there is more than one eligible student enrolled, selection will also consider:

  • Preference to students in their second year who may benefit from the full scholarship tenure, and
  • Academic merit (Cumulative GPA) may be considered.

Successful scholars will be notified via email from Admissions and Scholarships.
