Candidature Variation Forms

To request a variation to your candidature please complete the relevant variation form from the below list and obtain your Principal Supervisor's approval prior to submitting to UON Graduate Research.

Most variations must be received at UON Graduate Research at least two weeks prior to the census dates of 31 March (for semester 1) and 31 August (for semester 2) in order for them to take effect that semester. Once a variation form has been  processed by UON Graduate Research, we will notify you and your supervisors via email. In the instances of a leave of absence, or transfer of program, a letter will also be posted. Please ensure your contact details are correct in myHub.

Further information on each candidature variation can be found at the relevant FAQ.

The Confirmation Guidelines (PDF, 105.88KB) provide a minimum and consistent standard for the confirmation process for HDR candidates.
They should be read in conjunction with the Code of Practice for Higher Degree by Research Candidature Policy. Other supporting documentation, for instance the Candidate Cover Sheet and the Confirmation Committee Evaluation Form, can be provided on request by contacting UON Graduate Research.

Setting Supervisory Expectations

Candidates are required to complete a Supervisory Expectations Document in consultation with their supervisors within the first six months of candidature.

In setting the supervisory expectations, it is advisable to use the supplementary Paired Questions Task sheet, which lists a number of components of the supervisor-candidate relationship, and the degree to which each party is responsible. It is strongly recommended that the supervisor(s) and candidate complete the paired questions task independently and then meet to discuss the responses.

Recording Candidate-Supervisor Meetings

Candidates are encouraged to keep a record of all meetings with their supervisors. These may be in the form of brief notes and should be circulated to all supervisors (present at the meeting or not) to keep all up to date with progress. A focus on actions (with timeframes) is also recommended. A meeting log template has been prepared for such a purpose.
