A new career path is born for University of Newcastle midwifery graduate
After struggling to determine which career path to pursue, Angela Rees’ passion for midwifery was ignited after a chance encounter with a family and their newborn.
“It was in that moment of witnessing the joy and pure happiness of the new parents that my career path became clear,” she said.
Now practising as a registered midwife at John Hunter Hospital, Angela has spent the last two years completing a Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) at the University of Newcastle.
A keen interest in yoga and meditation influenced Angela’s study path, leading her to advance her knowledge and understanding of the impacts of meditation on childbirth.
“I really like the idea of working in public health and the opportunity to help mothers and babies achieve the best start to life through a wellness model.”
With a passion for lifelong learning, Angela is now considering undertaking PhD.
“One of the highlights for me was the opportunity to work with the academic team, who are very inspiring and hardworking. The University of Newcastle has a lot to offer with its facilities and training. It has been very rewarding.”
Angela gave the graduate speech at the Faculty of Health and Medicine graduation ceremony on Thursday 5 April, 2pm.
