Bar on The Hill reopens: A new chapter for a Newcastle tradition

With a revamped interior, new-look beer garden and updated menu, it’s hoped the changes will breathe new life into the venue.

“It’s brighter, more open, and filled with more character and energy,” says Sarah Sylvester, General Manager of NUservices.

“I’m excited to see the beer garden come to life with new seating and umbrellas. This space was previously underutilised, and I think it’ll now become a real draw card for students.”

The bar will feature a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options for under ten dollars. Expect to see crowd-pleasers like bacon and egg rolls, avocado on toast, a variety of pastries, toasted sandwiches and fresh salads.

For those looking to share a bite with friends, several plates are available – including cheesy garlic bread, wedges and arancini.

Also expected to be crowd favourites, are the house-made pizzas fresh out of the venue's newly installed pizza ovens.

NUservices says the upgrades will help continue Bar on The Hill’s legacy as a student bar and social hub at the University.

“It’s the perfect balance of old and new,” Ms Sylvester says. “The history is still there, but it’s been reimagined in a way that makes it exciting for our current and future students and enhances their university experience.”

Bar on The Hill will also continue to serve as the entertainment hub of Callaghan Campus. New weekly student ‘House Parties” have been added to the calendar every Thursday night.

In April, an exciting additional space will open including a merchandise nook and a versatile multi-function space complete with a karaoke bar.

“We’re really pleased with the results,” Ms Sylvester says. “I’m proud that IFS (Infrastructure and Services) and NUservices have delivered a space where our students will make lifelong friendships and core memories will be made.”

Bar on The Hill will be open Monday - Friday, 8am – late.
