A message from Deborah Wright, CEO, Radio 2NURFM
2NURFM is an important community asset of the University of Newcastle and, given my significant involvement and understanding of our University, I’m thrilled to be guiding the business through its next phase of development in the station’s 40th Anniversary year. I feel most privileged to be leading the 2NURFM team who are very experienced and so passionate about the station and the community. Each day they strive to deliver a quality and diverse experience on the radio, online and across social media.
The training of our University Bachelor of Communications students in our Newsroom is of the utmost importance to us with 2NURFM having a long history in educating and mentoring undergraduates. We are extremely proud of our work with our students which has seen over 300 students engaged in our work placement program over the past 10 years. The student success stories are notable and far-reaching with 21 students in the last 4 years alone entering mainstream media, going on to further their career in metropolitan and regional media. Our 2018 News work placement program has a full complement of students and we look forward to their valuable input throughout the course of the year in assisting our News team in producing our local news content.
2NURFM could not operate without the unwavering dedication of our wonderful volunteer staff. Some of our volunteers assist us with our day to day administration duties and some cover on air shifts and help with the station’s programming. It’s these fabulous volunteers who over the past 40 years, have helped to shape 2NURFM into the station it is today. We can’t create these inspiring stories without the ongoing financial support from our supporters. Over the years, these donations have assisted us to continue to broadcast to the region and provide a fabulous radio alternative for the Hunter.
