The people of Lake Macquarie and current and future students are at the centre of a new partnership between the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Sports Centre at Glendale.

The University of Newcastle’s Integrated Innovation Network (I2N) has won the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Activators of the Year at the 2024 Asia Pacific Triple E Awards, which recognises excellence in entrepreneurship and engagement in the higher education sector.

‘Solving the STEM Teacher Shortage’ - the recent HunterWiSE event hosted in collaboration with I2N - was an opportunity for current and prospective teachers, as well as people with an interest in the future of STEM education, to come together to share ideas and discuss a pressing issue.

A team of high school students have received further recognition for their innovative HunterWiSE project, aimed at improving accessibility in supermarket self-checkout systems.

Leonie Cutts and Craig Browne, who were participants in I2N’s Accelerator Cohort 2023, are veterans of the board game industry and co-founders of CCS Corporation. They are also now the creative minds behind CARISA, an innovative app designed to combat social isolation in residential aged care facilities.
