Enterprise Bargaining update 12 October 2021
The University of Newcastle’s bargaining sessions continued this week with negotiations focussed on how the new agreements can support our university’s goals of equity, sustainability and excellence.
The University is committed to achieving these goals and prioritising equitable provisions for all staff in our employment conditions. Through the bargaining process, we are undertaking consultation with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and LGBTIQA+ community to ensure appropriate representation and build on current employment conditions for all our staff.
The sessions this week also explored recent changes to the Fair Work Act and the impacts on our staff and employment conditions. The University enterprise agreements need to balance legislative compliance whilst also finding a range of ways to support staff in all employment categories.
The University wants the new enterprise agreements to represent and support all staff. This will be achieved through engagement with relevant stakeholders, promotion of inclusive initiatives and aligning of the agreements to our unique needs and operating requirements.
The next enterprise bargaining sessions will be held on 26 and 27 October.
