Students to strengthen Australia’s ties with Indo-Pacific through cultural immersion program

The University of Newcastle has been awarded $2.59m to provide students an opportunity to participate in innovative Indo-Pacific cultural experiences.
An initiative of the Australian Government, the New Colombo Plan Mobility Program, awards funding to projects that deepen Australia’s people-to-people and institutional relationships with the region, through the engagement of students, universities, businesses and other key stakeholders.
Commencing in 2021, 768 University of Newcastle students will participate in 47 Indo-Pacific region projects, covering 13 disciplines and connecting with 15 host countries.
In a year where international travel is still uncertain, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) will permit virtual delivery of projects, continuing the opportunity for University of Newcastle students to build on the knowledge of their degree with practical experiences.
Since launching in 2014, New Colombo Plan Mobility projects have offered close to 2,000 University of Newcastle students the opportunity to embark on a range of global experiences across disciplines.
