Michael Sala long-listed for the Miles Franklin award for 'The Restorer'
NEW Writing Newcastle member and UoN lecturer Dr Michael Sala longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award for his second novel The Restorer.
After almost five years of writing, Dr Michael Sala has been rewarded with a high honour: longlisting for the prestigious Miles Franklin Award.
Sala's second novel The Restorer follows the story of a couple who, recently reunited after a schism, move to a run-down terrace in the East End of Newcastle and start making plans to bring it to life.
The novel captures the inertia of Newcastle during the late 1980s, with the gritty industrial city grinding on, and deftly deals with painful topics of abuse and violence.
Michael will appear at the Sydney Writers' Festival, Newcastle Writers' Festival and more to discuss the book.
