Innovative Cystic Fibrosis research to be explored
Dr Jay Horvat will work with Professors Phil Hansbro and Peter Wark on a new investigation exploring the role and therapeutic targeting of iron in Cystic Fibrosis thanks to a new grant from the Australian Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust.

SMART off to a rolling start in 2017!
SMART finished off 2016 with a bang, presenting more than a dozen of our Best of SMART Liquid Nitrogen Shows for prospective University students on campus - maybe one day they will be presenting these shows! We also farewelled Sarah Pilgrim, SMART Team Leader for 2015-2016, who is on her way to becoming a secondary teacher.

UON researcher presents at University of California
Professor Victoria Haskins, Co-director of Purai Global Indigenous and Diaspora Research Studies Centre and a member of the Centre for 21st Century Humanities, recently presented a paper at the University of California, which drew on her latest research into Native American women in the 1920-30s.

New network creates cross-disciplinary fusion of gender, generation and culture
The Gender, Generation and Culture research network is a new initiative of the Centre for 21st Century Humanities at the University of Newcastle, led by Centre member Dr Patricia Pender (pictured - English and Writing) with Dr Akane Kanai (Sociology) and Dr Sara Motta (Politics). The new network, which was established in January is designed to link scholars actively engaged with issues of gender, generation, and culture across the university.
