Congratulations to Mr Shaun McCarthy, Director of UON’s Legal Centre, who has been awarded a 2017 Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning by the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).

It has been a busy couple of weeks across UON in the design of student-facing professional services. Six concurrent work streams are looking at how we currently interact with students and what happens behind the scenes to support this work.

A potential business idea pitched at the recent Humanities Startup Workshop held by the Centre for 21st Century Humanities has been launched as mobile puppet theatre. Frank’s Fantastic Fairytale Theatre is the brainchild of a group of ten people from Maitland who range in age from 19-74.

A University of Newcastle (UON) academic has been recognised for his quality teaching practice and outstanding contributions to student learning, specifically for his leadership of the successful clinical program at the Newcastle Law School.

Hunter Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (HunterWiSE), a new STEM outreach program based on mentorship, was launched on Monday 31 July 2017.

Over 700 students from 30 Hunter high schools went head to head in the week long ‘Build ME a Future Days’ event, at the University of Newcastle in May.

Engineers from the University of Newcastle have developed a new material which has the potential to change the future of road safety.

UON has selected a new Travel Management Service Provider, Campus Travel, and the project team are in the final stages of implementing the new Campus Travel system prior to the launch on 27 November 2017.

UON recently appointed Campus Travel as our provider of travel management services. Campus Travel is currently offering a Women in STEM Travel Grant, valued at $6000 and open to applications from female employees from any Australian university, university research affiliate or a PHD student employed by an Australian university that works in, studies or researches in the STEM fields.

University of Newcastle students have demonstrated their musical strength with half of the finalists in the Unisounds National Campus Band Comp representing UON.

A new program of half-day workshops aimed at budding entrepreneurs and corporate intrapreneurs to provide them with the basic building blocks they need to take their ideas to market in a quick and practical way.
