Globalisation – Postgraduate Students in China
Another successful intensive postgraduate offering of the Newcastle Business School’s Globalisation course was delivered in China in January.
Dr Tony Drew and Ms Kirsty McDonald led a group of 15 students through China over 15 days. This study tour was partially funded by the Department of Education and Training through the Endeavour Mobility Grant program.
The group visited Shanghai, Nanjing, Xi’an and Beijing along with Sichuan International Studies University in Chongqing.
A highlight of the trip was an industry visit to Schindler in Shanghai. Mr. Rene Matthe presented to the students on the production and exportation of both escalators and elevators in China which gave great insight into the market share Schindler holds. The students also participated in a factory tour which allowed them to gain valuable knowledge of the production-line of a large global corporation.
Whilst in Beijing, the students also visited a New Zealand company, Fronterra Co-operative Group. The organisation presented to students on the opportunities and challenges Fronterra have faced while establishing their dairy farming business in China.
The Faculty will be calling for expressions of interest in Trimester 2 for the next group to go in January 2018.
