Shane Alvisio awarded prestigious Life Membership
Australian University Sport (AUS) has recognised Shane Alvisio with its highest honour through the award of a Life Membership.
At the AUS General Meeting on 17 May 2016, members unanimously supported Shane’s nomination for the award. Shane is based at Ourimbah campus and works across both the School of Health Sciences and the School of Environmental and Life Sciences as placement coordinator.
Shane has made an outstanding contribution to the AUS and to the university sport sector for over 25 years. Shane has both competed in or coached at Pacific Rim and World University Championships, playing a pioneering role as an executive member of the Australian University Sports Association, the National University Sport Coordinator for the Sport of Judo, and as a member of the Nationals Sports Advisory Committee from 1992 – 1998. Shane’s leadership in support of university sport extends to 22 campuses in NSW and ACT and as a major contributor to the Eastern Conference Tertiary Sports Association.
In addition to his very significant contribution to university sport, Shane has made an enormous national contribution to the sport of Judo, being awarded a black belt in judo at the age of 18, which at the time made him the youngest holder of a black belt in Australia.
