Champions4Change take Blackout Challenge
Champions4Change is a sustainable behaviour change program to help meet targets of the Environmental Sustainability Plan 2015 – 2017, and develop new or innovative ways to support environmental sustainability.
Congratulations to the Chancellery Finance team and Auchmuty Client Services team who had a 100% Friday Blackout!
Thank you to those participating Champions, which included: the Finance and Media and Marketing in the Chancellery Building, Student Central in the Shortland Union, TFI and Postgraduate Study at the IDC Building, the Environmental team in the Services Building, YOURIMBAH, and the library staff at the IRC Building in Ourimbah
Champions4Change completed their first activity this weekend with the Blackout Challenge. Ten Champions across six buildings in seven work areas and on two campuses turned off all non-essential equipment in their work area on 1 May.
The Chancellery Finance and Marketing and Public Relations areas participated and saved 200 kWh. Annually this would save $1307 in energy costs. The Champions saved over the weekend:
- $218
- 1745 kWh
- 1.5 tonnes CO2
Imagine if the other areas of the building participated…the university could reduce its energy bill by an estimated $250,000 each year by switching off each weekend!
How do I become a Champion?
UON staff and students can become Champions4Change. Visit http://www.newcastle.edu.au/champions4change.
