New $17.3 million health facility now in use

Teaching is now under way in our new Medical Science West Building, which includes state-of-the-art anatomy, bioscience and pharmacy teaching laboratories.

Jointly funded by the University of Newcastle and the Commonwealth Government, this $17.3 million facility is designed to drive innovation and teaching excellence in the fields of health, medicine and science.

This new facility reflects the University's ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education for students, ensuring they benefit from utilising the latest technology and­ purpose-built facilities.

Bachelor of Pharmacy Program Convener, Associate Professor Rohan Rasiah said his students will now have the opportunity to use one of the 48 new dispensing workstations during their studies, that are set up to reflect the equipment used within the industry.

"This purpose built facility ensures our students are prepared for both their time on placement, and when they graduate."

"This is a great addition to the University, particularly in light of the fact that we have just taken our first intake of students into the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)." Associate Professor Rasiah said.

In addition to the pharmacy facilities, the new building houses our new state-of-the art anatomy and bioscience laboratory that will be used by all health science and medicine students throughout their studies.
