Newcastle China Week is an initiative to facilitate greater understanding between Newcastle and China through a series of interactive academic, cultural and social events.

China is one of the most valuable contributors to the strength of Australia’s economy and our top trading partner. As a result of this relationship and strong economic ties, there is a need to maintain an understanding of current trends and impacts of China’s strategic and economic initiatives.

One such example is the Belt and Road Initiative, a re-imagining of the legendary Silk Road, which seeks to economically connect Asia, Europe and Africa along five routes. Newcastle is well placed to tap into some of the opportunities as a result of the Belt and Road Initiative, so the 2017 China Week theme will explore this concept through enlightened discussions at the business forum and provide a journey for the senses when Belt and Road Cultures are introduced into the entertainment and hospitality options at our Noodle Night Market and Festival finale.

Newcastle China Week will inspire and delight with a program of events that will cross countries, continents and cultures this October. The event will provide opportunities for meaningful connections with a range of audience groups, including the Chinese community, business owners, professionals and leaders, cultural enthusiasts, tourists, students and local families.
