Surveyors play an important role in shaping infrastructure, land development and communities. From construction and mining projects to spatial mapping and environmental management, surveying professionals help collect and manage the data used to plan and develop the world around us.
The Diploma in Surveying provides a practical introduction to surveying principles, fieldwork practices and modern surveying methods. Designed to be completed in one year, this program develops foundational skills in surveying methods, measurements, spatial data and land management, preparing you for entry-level roles in the surveying industry.
The program combines online learning with compulsory on-campus field intensives, supporting flexible study while maintaining essential practical surveying experience. Graduates may continue their studies in the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours), with credit towards the degree, or move directly into the workforce.

Career opportunities
Surveyors assist in the planning and development of communities, infrastructure and land projects. A shortage of surveyors across Australia has led to strong demand for skilled graduates, with opportunities in consultancies, private practice, mining and government organisations.
Surveying is flexible and diverse. You may prefer hands-on fieldwork, office-based computation and computer drafting, or roles supporting infrastructure, land development and spatial data projects.

Course overview
Develop foundational surveying skills through practical and technical learning experiences. You’ll build knowledge in areas such as surveying techniques and computations, spatial data systems, remote sensing, cadastral surveying and land management processes.
You’ll apply your learning through practical fieldwork, surveying exercises and drafting activities using modern surveying equipment and technologies. The program places a strong focus on developing industry-ready practical skills for entry-level surveying roles.
The program combines online learning with compulsory on-campus field intensives. Intensive sessions are delivered in dedicated blocks throughout the semester to support accessibility while maintaining hands-on surveying experience and practical field competency.
